In 2021, LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort was embarking on a new journey to enhance its guest experience by integrating AR technology into their new IP, LEGO® MYTHICA. With the need to innovate, they aimed to create a unique way of merging physical experiences with digital storytelling to bring mythological narratives to life. As part of this initiative, they approached Zappar to craft a seamless experience that not only engaged visitors during their park visit but also extended their connection to the park beyond its physical boundaries.

The task at hand was to conjure a groundbreaking AR experience utilizing the LEGOLAND® app that would allow visitors to interactively engage with mythical figures and worlds connected to the LEGO® MYTHICA brand. The objective was to design AR experiences that included taking photos and videos, collecting digital cards, and exploring through AR portals, thus creating a meaningful blend of the digital and real worlds. The experiences needed to ensure an extended engagement both at the park and beyond its premises, capturing the users' attention pre-visit, during their stay, and post-visit.

Leveraging the power of AR, Zappar developed several experiences accessible through the LEGOLAND® app. Guests could engage with AR portals featuring world-tracked journeys through LEGOLAND® Resort, discover character backstories, and collect exclusive AR 'POP Badges'. These experiences were crafted to ignite guests' curiosity and extend their journey far beyond their visit. Custom branded codes at strategic locations throughout the park unlocked immersive digital content when scanned, enriching the theme park adventure by allowing guests to witness LEGO® creatures coming to life in their enchanted domains.
